HEALTHY, PLANT-BASED FOOD. RECYCLABLE PACKAGING
La nature, notre futur. Nature is not just our business. It is our future. As a family business with a long-standing commitment to environmental and social issues, we believe that global businesses can and should be a force for good. This is why for the past three decades, since our first agricultural charter, back in 1996, we have been innovating the way we grow, package, and sell our products to better protect the environment, and leave a greener, healthier planet to the future generations.
WE STAND TOGETHER –
FOR THE PLANET, FOR FOOD, FOR THE PEOPLE
At Bonduelle, the planet is one of our major concerns. That’s why our commitment is to make plant-based food a sustainable way of living for everyone. It is, as the French say, our “raison d’être”, the reason for everything we do, and articulates the general principles that drive our business and involvement in society. This process involves all of us: farmers, retailers, brands, managers, employees, consumers and people of all ages. Everyone has a role to play, no matter how small. And everything counts – from the soil where we grow our food to the recyclability of the plastics we use for packaging.
THE FUTURE IS NOW: BY 2025 ALL OUR PACKAGING WILL BE DESIGNED RECYCLABLE OR REUSABLE.
Food packaging waste is a major worldwide issue today. As one of the world’s leading food producers, Bonduelle is committed to transforming the way we grow, purchase and consume food, streamlining the transition towards a sustainable agriculture and a circular economy where waste generation is massively reduced or eliminated altogether.
Our objective for 2025 is to have all our packaging designed to be recyclable or reusable in our entire product portfolio, everywhere our products are sold. For this purpose, we are taking necessary steps to ensure all our packaging materials are or will be compatible with existing or planned recycling systems.
We are proud to announce that the new Lunch Bowl packaging you are holding right now has been eco-designed so it can be recycled!
All this without compromising on convenience (ability to microwave) and product preservation - with the same shelf life as before.
Our commitment stands on three pillars: the planet, the food and the people. To help the planet, we are committed to a sustainable and diversified agriculture, continually researching and implementing new ways of growing, processing, and selling products. We are committed to get 100% of our packaging designed to be recyclable or reusable by 2025. We can save the planet together, one food bag at a time.
Our goal is to make plant-based food accessible to everyone. Our six commitments to food are to promote local and seasonal products, reduce the use of pesticides, protect biodiversity and the soil, reduce the use of additives, promote and increase the share of organic products and develop sustainable packaging. Our high-quality, tasty, natural and healthy plant-based foods have a high nutritional value and come mainly from environmentally-conscious agriculture.
Finally, for our third pillar, the people, we are delivering responsible economic and social impacts for all our employees and communities.
The material used for this new Lunch Bowl packaging is polypropylene, which is one of the most recyclable flexible plastics in Europe. We have switched from a multilayer packaging made of different plastics, which is not recyclable, to this mono material structure for the packaging, made of polypropylene. We have collaborated with RecycleMe(*), a circular economy consulting company, on assessing and improving the recyclability of our plastic packaging. We assessed the new Lunch Bowl packaging following the CIRCULATE methodology(**). And we are proud to say that they have received the maximum score of class A+++ and a score of 95%.
Moreover this new packaging is fully aligned with CEFLEX(***)'s Design for a Circular Economy Guidelines.
After you have enjoyed our product, please put it in the right bin so that it can be collected, sorted and recycled !
(*)RecycleMe is an eco-design consultancy. Their experts help assess and certify the recyclability of packaging thanks to numerical tools, guidelines and laboratory tests. RecycleMe website.
(**)CIRCULATE is a methodology for measuring the recyclability of packaging. The determination of recyclability refers to the entire packaging, including all components such as lids, labels, adhesive, barrier layers, etc. as a single unit to be considered as a whole. The CIRCULATE calculation considers the share of recyclables in the packaging, the disposal scheme, the sorting destination, the refining and the recyclability value of the recycled materials. This will result in a final recyclability class and scoring percentage, with a maximum score of class A+++ and a score of 100%, with a minimum of class C and a 0% score. If the packaging does not fit recycling processes, it can also be disqualified for recyclability.
A+++ : Best recyclability - the packaging does not present any recyclability issues and the recycled material will be of high quality with the possibility of closed loop applications.
(***) The Circular Economy for Flexibe Packaging (CEFLEX) initiative is a collaboration of over 180 European companies, associations and organisations representing the entire value chain of flexible packaging. Raw material producers (plastics, paper and aluminum foil), ink, coating and adhesive suppliers, film producers and flexibles packaging converters, brands owners, waste management companies, recyclers, extended producer responsibility organisations and technology suppliers.Together, they work to make all flaxible packaging in Europe circular.
